SA LIVESTOCK EXCHANGE DUBLIN REPORT
Sheep – 23 June
Numbers lifted again this week as agents offered 5000 lambs and 1000 sheep. Quality was fair to good across the offering as prices remained generally firm.
The usual trade and processor buyers were active along with specialty butchers, feeders and restockers. As the winter progresses, more small and tidy lots are starting to appear with overall quality generally suffering.
Crossbred light stores sold from $160 to $200 as the better types sold from $180 to $230 and more in places. Trade weights sold from $240 to $255, heavy weights ranged from $250 to $275 as the few extreme heavy weights sold from $320 to $370 per head.
Better quality Merino stores sold from $170 to $230 and slightly easier. Trade weights ranged from $220 to $250, heavy trades sold fromm $270 to $290 with extra heavies fetching $295 to $310 per head.
Light mutton sold from $140 to $190, trade weights ranged from $210 to $224 with heavy weights fetching $260 to $275 per head.
Cattle – 23 June
Pastoral store cattle again made up the bulk of the numbers as agents offered 700 liveweight and open auction. The mostly younger cattle included steers, heifers and bulls consigned from Oakden Hills Station via Port Augusta in the North West Pastoral area.
The usual trade and processor buyers operated on the limited slaughter cattle with feeders and restockers booking the balance. Prices were generally easier over the pastoral lots with the processor and butcher cattle mostly firm.
Trade heifers ranged from 430 cents to 450 cents per kilogram. Restocker steers ranged from 490 cents to 570 cents, with heifers selling from 420 cents to 490 cents per kilogram.
Feeder steers sold from 520 cents to 530 cents with heifers fetching 420 cents to 490 cents per kilogram. Heavy cows sold from 310 cents to 362 cents as Mickey and yearling bulls sold from 382 cents to 610 cents per kilogram.
