SA LIVESTOCK EXCHANGE DUBLIN REPORT
Sheep – 14 April
Numbers increased substantially this week as agents offered 8800 lambs and 1200 sheep. Quality was generally very good across the yarding with the mutton offering also of good quality.
The usual trade and processor buyers were active along with feeders, restockers and specialty butchers with the market returning a mostly positive trend.
Heavy crossbred lambs peaked at $412 per head with another 200 lambs fetching $405 per head.
Agents quoted estimated rates of 1180 cents and 1220 cents per kilogram carcase weight, while the best woolly Merino lambs were quoted at 1200 cents per kilogram carcase weight and carrying a $18 to $25 skin. Heavy mutton continues to sell well in the $230 to $280 per head range.
Crossbred light stores sold from $180 to $220 with the better types selling from $240 to $256 per head. Trade weights ranged from $245 to $275, heavy trades sold from $285 to $295 with the extreme heavy weights selling from $340 to $412 per head.
Light Merino stores sold from $130 to $180 as the better types sold from $210 to $225 per head. Trade weights sold from $230 to $245, heavy weights ranged from $265 to $280 with the few extra heavy weights selling from $295 to $350 per head.
Light mutton sold from $120 to $170, trade weights ranged from $180 to $240 with light weights fetching $120 to $170 per head. Rams sold from $40 to $160 per head.
