A Code Blue Tier 2 extreme winter weather response has been extended and expanded to the Clare Valley to help people sleeping rough stay warm during prolonged forecasted low temperatures.
Extended until tomorrow, 26 June, overnight accommodation or shelter is available under this activation and people can find out what support may be available by calling the 24-hour service Homeless Connect SA on 1800 003 308.
Statewide support provided by homelessness services and their partners may include safe places to temporarily seek refuge from extreme weather during the day or increased promotion of existing services offering clothing, water, food and blankets.
Minister for Human Services Katrine Hildyard said the expanded Code Blue response would help ensure vulnerable South Australians were not left exposed during winter weather.
“We know cold weather creates heightened risk for people sleeping rough. We want them to know they are not alone, that there is support available,” she said.
“The expanded Code Blue response strengthens outreach, support and emergency accommodation pathways for people without a safe place to sleep, helping ensure support is available when it is most needed by community members who need a hand.”
