A new shopping village has opened its doors in the past week, which will now provide thousands of families living north of Adelaide with another venue to do their weekly grocery shopping.
The first stage of the Palms Shopping Centre at Riverlea Park, located at the corner of Central Drive and Riverlea Boulevard, officially opened on Wednesday, 24 June.
The $100 million shopping centre will create more than 120 local retail and service jobs while delivering greater convenience, dining and essential services to the local community.
Stage One is anchored by a full line Coles Supermarket and Liquorland, and includes Anytime Fitness, Amitra & Co Hair Services, Jennifer Carly Aesthetic Medicine, St Georges Bakehouse and Nou Nails.
Priceline Pharmacy, Local Crowd Coffee and Kingsmen Hair will also open in the coming weeks, further expanding the centre’s retail and service offering.
Walker Corporation Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer David Gallant said the retail village was the next important step in delivering the infrastructure needed to support Riverlea’s rapid growth.
“The Palms Shopping Village opening is a major milestone for Riverlea, unlocking everyday convenience for residents while supporting local jobs and economic growth across Adelaide’s northern suburbs,” he said.
“Residents can do their weekly grocery shop, grab a coffee, visit the pharmacy or access other everyday services without leaving Riverlea, giving people more time back in their day to spend with family and friends.”
The Palms Shopping Village will cover more than 10,000 square metres and will include more than 25 specialty stores across stages one and two, an alfresco dining precinct and parking for more than 530 vehicles.
Riverlea resident Emily Kempster said the opening of The Palms Shopping Village was an exciting milestone for local families.
“When we moved to Riverlea, we could see the vision for what the community would become and it is very cool to see it all coming to life,” she said.
“Having more places to meet friends, spend time with family and connect with neighbours will make a real difference for everyone living here.
“You can feel the momentum across Riverlea at the moment, and it’s so exciting to think about what the community will look like in a few months when the school and sportsground open.”
The final stage of the project deliver the Paisley Park Early Learning Centre, medical centre with pathology services and additional dining options within the outdoor plaza.
To mark the first stage opening, Walker hosted community celebrations on Saturday and Sunday, inviting residents and visitors to explore the shopping centre.
