Tourism tick for Mid North towns

Two of the Mid North’s historic towns have been nominated amongst the top 10 tourist towns in the state, with voting now open to choose a winner.

Tourism Industry Council SA (TiCSA), in partnership with Hello SA is searching for South Australia’s best tourism town, and are calling on passionate tourists and locals to vote for their favourite town.

Burra has been recognised as a traveller’s paradise, where trails weave through the township, revealing secrets of its Cornish mining past, and the harmony of old and new as modern venues breathe life into historical locations, offering a vibrant contrast that celebrates the town’s enduring spirit.

Mintaro is noted as “the jewel in the crown of the Clare Valley,” a remarkably well preserved and a rare example of an early colonial rural town and declared a State Heritage Area in 1984.

Mintaro continues to reflect and take pride by opening its doors to those who want world class epicurean experiences in an intimate setting; resembling the best of rustic Tuscany in summer and the lush green rolling hills of Ireland in winter.

Yet it is unmistakable as anywhere but Australia, as you travel around the small village and take in the massive gum tree lined streets, creeks and parks.

“South Australia is home to so many incredible towns, showcasing excellent tourism experiences and passionate communities,” Shaun de Bruyn, Chief Executive Officer of TiCSA said.

“The unique qualities of each town are what connects visitors to truly South Australian experiences.”

Clare Valley regional tourism manager Jordan Martin said she was thrilled to see Burra and Mintaro recognised as finalists in the 2024 TiCSA Top Tourism Town Awards.

“Their commitment to supporting tourism in our community is exemplary,” she said.

“This nomination not only highlights the exceptional experiences available in the Clare Valley Tourism Region, but also underscores the vital role tourism plays in our local economy.

“With tourism supporting one in every eight jobs, and sustaining 200 businesses—generating an impressive $191 million in annual expenditure, it’s clear how critical this sector is. All community members are urged to support Burra and Mintaro by casting their votes and helping bring well-deserved recognition to our towns.”

Cast your vote now at hellosa.com.au/top-tourism-town-awards-2024, voting closes at 11.59pm on Sunday, May 19.

Winners will be announced at the SA Tourism Conference on Tuesday, June 4.
